Dr. Neighbors graduated from Texas A&M University, joined Galveston ISD in 2004, and has held a variety of leadership roles across the district. Now serving as the Superintendent of Schools, he has led Galveston ISD through increasing academic ratings and robust construction during his tenure. He is passionate about creating educational systems that are engaging and inspiring for students while also fostering a rewarding and supportive environment for staff. Dr. Neighbors and his wife, Allyson, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at UTMB orthopedics, are proud parents of two adult daughters.
From his days as Principal at Austin Middle School to his current role as the steward of the entire District, Dr. Neighbors has been a stalwart supporter of outdoor learning and innovative teaching methods that leverage our unique island home as the ultimate learning space. We have found a friend, supporter and advisor in Dr. Neighbors for years, and Groundswell is proud to call him this year's 2026 OkraFest Gala Honoree!
